December 30th Party!

Fellow Republicans, let's meet the 2016 statewide Republican candidates and have a party!

We’ll have dinner, visit with friends, and look forward to the New Year together!  We promise exhilarating candidate speeches, delicious food & a festive atmosphere.  While Republicans hold nearly every elective partisan office in Clark County and the state legislature, we have only one statewide officeholder, Secretary of State, Kim Wyman.  The offices currently held by Democrats include Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Treasurer, Auditor, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner, and Superintendent of Public Lands.  Let’s make a New Year’s Resolution on December 30th to win Republican leadership in each of those offices.

Come and meet these statewide candidates:

Very sad news regarding the passing of Ron Rasmussen Sr:  Ron Rasmussen was a great Republican supporter who meant much to this county and the Clark County Republican Party.  He served as our chairman for many years in the 1980s and was well known and admired by all.  His big smile, terrific stories and generosity will truly be missed.  His family sent the following letter yesterday and has allowed us to share it with you:

Ladies and Gentlemen:  It is our sad honor to confirm that Ron Rasmussen Sr. has passed from the scene.  The demise occurred yesterday, Sunday, 29 November 2015, at Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital in Clackamas, Oregon, near Portland.  He was surrounded by family members at the bedside.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, 12 December 2015, at 200pm, at Vancouver First United Methodist Church, located at the corner of NE 33rd Avenue at Main Street in downtown Vancouver WA.

Legislative Fundraising Freeze:  There are just 12 days left for our state Representatives and Senators to accept your campaign contributions.  Every State Representative and State Senator in Clark County is Republican except for the three in the 49th and they are all up for re-election in 2016.  Because they cannot accept contributions while in session they had a very short opportunity last year due to the many added sessions.
(Also note in the calendar of events below that Reps. Brandon Vick and Paul Harris have a fundraiser this evening).

Clark County Republican Legislators:
14th LD:  Rep. Norm Johnson, Rep. Gina McCabe, Sen. Curtis King
17th LD: Rep. Lynda WilsonRep. Paul HarrisSen. Don Benton
18th LD: Rep. Brandon VickRep. Liz PikeSen. Ann Rivers
20th LD: Rep. Richard DeBoltRep. Ed OrcuttSen. John Braun
49th LD:  No Republicans

Candidate filing week begins for Diking and Drainage District Commissioners.  If you own property in one of these 3 districts you are eligible to run for commissioner.  Election for these offices is on a rather unusual schedule so filing week is December 14 – 18 and the election will be February 2.  Please take a look at this press release and let us know if you need further information.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It is never our goal to merely repeat information which has already inundated you from other sources.

Remember that the legislative fundraising freeze begins December 12th so contribute to your favorite state legislators while you can.  They are all up for re-election in 2016 and every State Representative and State Senator in Clark County is Republican except for the three in the 49th.

Let's Support Our Legislators

Last week we included the very long list of positions that will be up for election next year and mentioned that it is not too early to begin thinking about winning these races.  Actually this is the perfect time to think about the state legislative races because they are not allowed to raise campaign funds when they’re in session.  With all the extra sessions they endured last year they had less time to raise funds.  Next month the new session begins so the fundraising freeze begins December 12th.  Please send them your most generous contribution before that deadline.

Clark County Republican Legislators:
14th LD:  Rep. Norm Johnson, Rep. Gina McCabe, Sen. Curtis King
17th LD: Rep. Lynda WilsonRep. Paul HarrisSen. Don Benton
18th LD: Rep. Brandon VickRep. Liz PikeSen. Ann Rivers
20th LD: Rep. Richard DeBoltRep. Ed OrcuttSen. John Braun

On Senate Bill 5263 from Vicki Kraft, 17th LD Chair:  I encourage you to take this opportunity to learn more about an important bill that will affect property owners who are part of an HOA. If this law passes, it will impact all WA citizens' property rights living in an HOA community.  We thought this bill was dead, but it appears to have resurfaced.  Specific problems with the bill as presented in 2015 is attached here.

CCRP is hosting an informative and collaborative discussion on Tue., Dec. 8th at HQ to discuss this bill.  Check below in the “Coming Events” section for additional information.

You can find the Original Bill (SB 5263) and the history of the bill during the 2015 session at this link:  http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=5263&#history

Your part in this all volunteer organization.  With the election over and the holidays approaching our public schedule is a little quiet.  Don’t let that stop you from organizing and promoting your passion.  Everything on our schedule is there because someone took initiative to organize or promote it.  If you organize an event that promotes Republican values or candidates we would likely want to help you publicize it.  Give us a call, send us an email.  Let’s talk about it.

An Election Recap and a Look Forward

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s election.  Less than 34% of Clark County’s registered voters turned in a ballot, which put us just slightly behind the statewide average of 37%.  If you would like to verify that your ballot was received you can look here: www.myvote.wa.gov/.  After entering your information click “Ballot Status” on the next page.

Twenty five volunteers from the Clark County Republican Party served as election observers during three weeks of ballot processing that just ended.  We are grateful for these Elections office-certified volunteers who perform this service for you.  If you would like to assist them in this capacity watch for the next class offered in June 2016.  CVTV has just produced a story in the life of a ballot which shows the various ballot processes (which we observe): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDOP8dUQ5Rk.  Our election observers can be seen at work if you know where to look.

Our call center attracted over 70 volunteers who contacted voters, using sophisticated communication technologies, to encourage them to vote.  While overall turnout was rather dismal, the percentage of Republicans that voted was greater which resulted in many successes.

We put forth a great effort on the Write-in Campaign.  We're very proud of the Party for giving the voters a conservative choice for County Chair and really proud of the volunteers and voters that promoted the campaign.  While the campaign did not prevail, the large Republican turnout helped many of our other candidates and issues succeed including:

I-1366, the Tim Eyman initiative

Julie Olson for County Council District 2 --PCO

Shane Bowman Battle Ground City Council –unopposed PCO

Steve Phelps Battle Ground City Council – unopposed PCO

Dan Coursey Washougal City Council – PCO

Rosemary Fryer Vancouver School Board

Tom Gianatasio East County Fire Commission – unopposed PCO

(Five of the six races were won by Clark County Republican Party PCOs)

And many other races where we had no particular connection, but we still enjoyed seeing them benefit from the higher conservative turnout.

Your Write-In Vote Counts!

I’ve been told that you are receiving phone calls that say Liz Pike cannot win so you must vote for Marc Boldt (who has a long record of voting with the Democrats, is endorsed by the far left Young Democrats, has a Democratic campaign manager and is supported by the big name downtown Democrats).

The Truth is:

  1. The elections office has expanded their capacity 3 times to handle the volume of write in ballots they are receiving.  This is a campaign that will win with your vote!
  2. Opponents are spending time and money to discourage you, so they must also believe she CAN win!
  3. Using a name similar to ours is a desperate tactic they use on campaign signs and phone calls.  Liz Pike is the ONLY Clark County Republican Party endorsed candidate.  Marc Boldt and Mike Delasandro are officially opposed by the party.

And why do they say you must vote for him instead of Liz?  To prevent a Democrat from winning the office!!??

Are you kidding me?

Donald Trump and Dr. Ben Carson are leading in the polls because Americans are sick of establishment leaders betraying their values.

The country is $18T in debt and Congress is poised to raise the debt ceiling again because they do not have the courage to rein in spending.

We need fearless elected leaders, but it will take fearless voters to put them in place.

The Write-in Liz Pike Campaign has energized Republican voters, which helps every Republican-endorsed candidate.

A huge thank you to everyone that came out last night to support Lisa Ross at the WSU Port Commission Debate!  She really was overwhelmed with the large number of supporters.  It means a lot to our candidates when you show such support.  Running for office is a lonely proposition.  You made us all proud last night!  Thank You.
