Julie Olson Will Seek Clark County Council District 2 Seat

(For the complete Press Release click here.)

Julie Olson is running for the new Clark County Council District 2 position which will be on the ballot this November as a result of the County Charter approved by voters last fall.  The west district encompasses the cities of Ridgefield and La Center and surrounding rural hamlets.  District 2 also includes most of Lakeshore, Salmon Creek and central county areas.

"I will bring a strong, independent voice to the Clark County Council," said Olson.  "At a time when our county is growing steadily in an improving economy, it's important to focus on economic development opportunities to grow jobs in Southwest Washington with a careful eye on fiscal responsibility," she said.  "Taxpayers deserve thoughtful consideration on how their tax dollars are spent as the county provides regional services including public safety, mental health services, a court system, adult and juvenile detention facilities, regional parks, land use planning and important transportation infrastructure," said Olson….

Vancouver, WA – Councilor David Madore, chair of the Board of County Councilors, is scheduled to present State of the County remarks on Thursday, March 12, along with Councilors Jeanne E. Stewart and Tom Mielke.  Plans call for newly elected Sheriff Chuck E. Atkins and newly appointed Acting County Manager Mark McCauley to be on hand for short presentations.

The councilors also will recognize volunteers for extraordinary efforts in 2014. They urge those attending to bring non-perishable food, household supplies or financial donations for local food banks.  A food drive has been a key part of State of the County in recent years. Donations in 2014 provided nearly 3,000 meals. More than 10,000 families turn to the Clark County Food Bank and partner agencies each month for help meeting basic needs.
