Which Will It Be?

Liberal, Progressive, Moderate, Conservative?  How will the new Clark County Council govern?  Maybe we’ll have an idea this evening as they meet for the very first time.  We strongly encourage you to attend this 6pm meeting on the 6th floor of the Public Service Building, 1300 Franklin St.  The Democrats always have a strong presence and from the way they are acting, you would think they control the council.  Will they start charging us to use the parks again?  Is the 2% property tax reduction safe?  What other conservative accomplishments will be repealed?  Or will the council proudly champion limited government and low taxes?

As reported in a December 20th Columbian article: “And when asked if he’d like to see any of the current council’s policies undone, Boldt put it bluntly. ‘I see rolling back almost all of them,’ Boldt said.”

The agenda is posted here: https://www.clark.wa.gov/the-grid.  The first item is to overturn all the resolutions passed on Dec. 22.  Please attend!  Tuesday6pm (get there early) 6th floor hearing room of the Public Service Building 1300 Franklin, Vancouver

Reps Lynda Wilson & Paul Harris' 17th LD Open House, scheduled for the same time, has been postponed so as not to compete with this first meeting of the County Council.

FIRST PUBLIC HEARING OF THE NEW COUNTY COUNCIL January 5, 6:00pm
Public Service Center, sixth-floor hearing room, 1300 Franklin St., Vancouver
This is the first meeting of the new 5-member County Council that is the result of the County Charter passed in 2014.  It would be really terrific if we all made a New Year’s resolution to support the new council by regular attendance and testimony to let them know how important small government, low taxes and private property rights are to the voters of Clark County.  This Jefferson quote comes to mind: “The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.” Our opponents will continue to be at every meeting in full force.  The councilors really do need our encouragement to battle for our liberties.

Reps Lynda Wilson & Paul Harris' 17th LD Open House, previously scheduled for the same time, has been postponed so as not to compete with this first meeting of the County Council.  They will reschedule mid-session when they have more pertinent info on what issues are before the legislature.

DISCUSSION ON SB5263--HOA PROPERTY RIGHTS January 5, 6:30 – 8:00pm
Clark County Republican Party HQ - 9401 NE Covington Rd., Vancouver
CCRP will be hosting one more informative discussion on this important legislation concerning property rights for homeowners in HOA communities before the 2016 WA Legislative Session starts. You're welcome to invite others who are interested in learning more about or have concerns with this bill. This will not be a debate format, rather an information session on the potential concerns of this legislation.  I encourage you to take this opportunity to learn more about an important bill that will affect property owners who are part of an HOA. If this law passes, it will impact all WA citizens' property rights living in an HOA community.  Specific problems with the bill as presented in 2015 is attached here.  Look forward to seeing you there. Vicki Kraft, 17th Legislative District Chairman, at 360-771-5201 or VickCaldwellKraft@ClarkRepublicans.com

REPUBLICAN TOASTMASTER’S CLUB January 7, 5:00pm – 6:30pm
Clark County Republican Party HQ - 9401 NE Covington Rd., Vancouver
Have you ever wanted to improve your ability to talk and communicate? To be more clear? More concise?  More convincing?  I suggest you visit the Clark County Republican Toastmasters.  The club meetings are NOT about stuffy speeches or making toast.  It’s actually a brilliantly designed program that helps improve both your speaking AND thinking skills.  I have been attending since last January and the meetings are never boring - everyone gets a “job”.  Whether giving a speech, evaluating a speech, counting ums and ahs, or other appointed roles, nobody leaves without getting involved.   One of the favorite roles is Table Talk Master.  This is where you come prepared with questions to ask other members to stand up with a two minute answer.   Not only have we had a lot of laughing in this club, we are actually seeing improvement in the speaking skills of each other and ourselves.   If you want to get better at the three “C”s ~ please come join us! – Piper McEwen
