Clark County's First Council Meeting of 2016

We wondered in these pages last week how the new County Council would govern.  They had their first meeting last Tuesday and did repeal all eight December resolutions to the cheers of the Democrats who have religiously attended these meetings.  CVTV was there to record the very lively meeting.  Here is video on the repeal of the eight resolutions (about 45 minutes).  Here is the discussion about the 2% reduction in property tax (25 minutes) which will be discussed today, and here is the entire 4 hours that includes the above plus all the testimony.  It truly is time for the citizens to participate more fully in their government.  After today's tax decision, rural property rights will likely be the next agenda item.  Council meetings are currently held every Tuesday morning at 10am except for the first Tuesday of the month when they meet at 6pm.  1300 Franklin, 6th Floor hearing room.

Just what is the Republican Party?  As a grassroots organization, local Republicans are invited to come to the caucus February 20th and give us the answer to that question.  Every 2 years (4 years in this case) the party has a county convention and establishes a party platform.  The platform begins with resolutions presented at the caucus.  Come to our caucus training and learn how you can participate effectively.

RALLY AGAINST WAC 162-32-060 TRANSGENDER RESTROOM, LOCKER ROOM USE This rule gives people the choice of using any restroom or locker room, according to the sex they “feel” they identify with. A pedophile could follow a little girl into a bathroom; a rapist could follow a woman into a bathroom; a gang of men could go into a women’s restroom and cause mischief and misery for the females there.  We have a duty to protect women and children for this could be your wife, sister, daughter, mother or granddaughter.  State senators have told me a rally will get Olympia’s attention. Please contact me if you are willing to rally against this at the Clark County Courthouse on a Saturday. When I get enough people, I will schedule it and tell the media. SECOND PUBLIC HEARING OF THE NEW COUNTY COUNCIL January 12, 10:00am
Public Service Center, sixth-floor hearing room, 1300 Franklin St., Vancouver
It would be really terrific if we all made a New Year’s resolution to support the new council by regular attendance and testimony to let them know how important small government, low taxes and private property rights are to the voters of Clark County.  This Jefferson quote comes to mind: “The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.” Our opponents will continue to be at every meeting in full force.  The councilors really do need our encouragement to battle for our liberties.

REPUBLICAN TOASTMASTER’S CLUB January 14, 5:00 – 6:30pm
Clark County Republican Party HQ - 9401 NE Covington Rd., Vancouver
Have you ever wanted to improve your ability to talk and communicate? To be more clear? More concise?  More convincing?  I suggest you visit the Clark County Republican Toastmasters.  The club meetings are NOT about stuffy speeches or making toast.  It’s actually a brilliantly designed program that helps improve both your speaking AND thinking skills.  I have been attending since last January and the meetings are never boring - everyone gets a “job”.  Whether giving a speech, evaluating a speech, counting ums and ahs, or other appointed roles, nobody leaves without getting involved.   One of the favorite roles is Table Talk Master.  This is where you come prepared with questions to ask other members to stand up with a two minute answer.   Not only have we had a lot of laughing in this club, we are actually seeing improvement in the speaking skills of each other and ourselves.   If you want to get better at the three “C”s ~ please come join us! – Piper McEwen

Sen. John Braun, and Rep.
