Many Ways to Support and Serve Our Local Party

From the desk of the Events Coordinator:

On the 206th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birthday, we pause to take stock of the progress of our Lincoln Day Dinner preparations.

This week we have made our final decision on the date and venue of the dinner and will sign the contract in a few days.  As soon as the ink on the contract dries, we will begin our marketing push.

The most exciting element of the preparations has been the numbers of volunteers that have joined all of the Lincoln Day Dinner committees.  At this early a stage, it is encouraging to see over 50 excited volunteers ready to help us.  As the time draws near, we will need even more support.  Please join us!  We will find a place where you will shine and help the cause.

In honor of president #16, happy birthday, Mr. Lincoln.

CCRP still seeking input:  Please look at these 2015 open positions.  Check out this articleand follow this link to view the open positions in Clark County for 2015.  Are there elected servants here we should encourage to run for re-election?  Are there some we should replace?  The County Councilor positions still need to be added to this list, but please send your recommendations for retention or removal to  Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What?  There is no 2/3 requirement to raise taxes in Washington State?
We’ve voted 5 separate times to require a 2/3 vote of the legislature to raise our taxes, but it is still not law!  Our friends at are hard at work to solve this problem once and for all.  They have a brilliant solution, but will need our help.  They have until July 2nd -- about 150 days -- to collect 320,000 voter signatures.  That's over 2000 signatures PER DAY! Once qualified, it will be on the ballot in November.  We expect to have petitions in the office soon.  Call us (360-695-1609) to check on the status or download your own copies from their site:

This is definitely Legislative Season.  The legislators are communicating well with the voters again this year.  If you are not getting their regular emails or Facebook posts, please find their contact information at the Officeholder tab on our website and connect with them.

News Release:  Clark County Magna Carta Observance Committee  and

"We look forward to raising public awareness about the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta and liberty under the law", said Ron Rasmussen Sr, co-organizer of the Clark County Magna Carta Observance Committee.

The Magna Carta is the premier document in the field of human rights.  The Magna Carta was affirmed by King John of England on June 15, 1215, in the town of Runnymede, after 25 barons forced him to agree to the terms.  The committee will host an observance at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site on Saturday, June 20, 2015, to celebrate the 800th anniversary, featuring historical re-enactors.

The committee is also working closely with high schools throughout Clark County.  Each high school will conduct an essay contest with one winner per high school.  Each winner will receive a $500.00 award from the committee.  This is part of a multi-pronged approach, also working with high school drama departments, plus art departments producing painted shields representing the Magna Carta era.  Contact:  Ron Rasmussen Sr: Contact:  Ron Rasmussen Jr: 360-896-9394

The Clark County Republican Party very much appreciate the Rasmussens and Bill Hidden for organizing this wonderful event and developing the scholarship program which is available to nearly 30 High Schools!

Become a Contributor

Many have asked how to contribute financially to this all-volunteer organization.  A monthly contribution specifically to keep us in our terrific office space can be set up here and would be especially appreciated right now as the new board evaluates the viability of keeping the office open.  There are other ways to contribute listed here: Of course, you can always deliver your contribution to the office which is dependably staffed by volunteers.  The address is 9401 NE Covington Rd.  Call 360-695-1609 to speak with someone at the office.

STATE OF THE COUNTY March 12th 3:30p – 5:30pm
Skyview High School, 1300 NW 139th St, Vancouver
Vancouver, WA – Councilor David Madore, chair of the Board of County Councilors, is scheduled to present State of the County remarks on Thursday, March 12, along with Councilors Jeanne E. Stewart and Tom Mielke.  Plans call for newly elected Sheriff Chuck E. Atkins and newly appointed Acting County Manager Mark McCauley to be on hand for short presentations.

The councilors also will recognize volunteers for extraordinary efforts in 2014. They urge those attending to bring non-perishable food, household supplies or financial donations for local food banks.  A food drive has been a key part of State of the County in recent years. Donations in 2014 provided nearly 3,000 meals. More than 10,000 families turn to the Clark County Food Bank and partner agencies each month for help meeting basic needs.

Please put this date on your calendar for the 2015 version of the greatest party in the Party, the Lincoln Day Dinner.  Details to follow.

By advertising to the public through various media, we hope not only to provide an opportunity to get to know more Republicans, but to show off our beautiful, centrally located, fully staffed and frequently used office and to raise enough money to pay for one year's worth of utilities. With the 2016 General Election coming up soon, this is a great opportunity to start new relationships, seek new support, and inspire to Be The Party!  We’ll need volunteers, clothing racks and tables.  Please call Brenda at 503-380-6918 to help.

Battle Ground
La Center

I’ve been told many times of late that Democrats don’t have division as found in the Republican Party.  I have no idea if that is true, though I guess they were not divided in their condemnation of Governor Kitzhaber!

"No meaningful change takes place in the absence of conflict" -- Ron Kraybill

I want you to know that I embrace Republican division without fear and am committed to helping us listen to each other respectfully.  As I have previously stated, I trust the PCOs to lead this party through passionate civil discourse.  They have not disappointed me yet!

Feel free to contact me.   I am available to you any time,
